What are TENS Units?
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a non-invasive technique that we can pursue for patients to help with pain relief. TENS uses low voltage electrical stimulation to muscles to help with pain relief. One or more electrodes are attached to the skin and the electrical stimulation can be used to achieve a pleasant tingling sensation.
TENS Units can be used by most patients and can even be used as a non-invasive, non-medication method to help with pain relief. Some patients can even wear their device while at work when they need symptom relief. Patients who should not use TENS include those who are pregnant or who have a pacemaker.
